If you send a paper copy of your text (typed and double-spaced with page numbers, please), I will make handwritten corrections and margin notes in a contrasting ink color (usually red) on the pages and return them to you. You can then incorporate the changes into your final copy.
When copy editing, I look over the text and correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and other basic technical errors. I also make note of discrepancies in style (such as multiple spellings of an invented word, inconsistent capitalization, etc.), possible factual errors, and other issues that need your attention. I generally follow the Chicago Manual of Style; if you use AP or another house style, let me know.
Please note: This process does not allow for major changes or extensive rearranging of sentences/paragraphs. If you have a first draft and need to refine the general structure, clarity, flow, and coherence of your text,
substantive editing may be more helpful.
