frequently asked questions
• What does your business name mean?
The Greek adjective katharos means pure, clear, or clean. As E.B. White wrote in The Elements of Style, "Since writing is communication, clarity can only be a virtue. And although there is no substitute for merit in writing, clarity comes closest to being one." My mission is to bring clarity to your writing and help your message reach the reader pure, clean, and unhindered.

• Can you help me get published?
katharos is not a subsidiary of any literary agency or publishing company, and I cannot guarantee any manuscript's acceptance by agents or publishers. I can fix superficial errors in your work to make it easier for them to read, but it must stand on its own merit.

• How does this affect my copyright?
Because my editing is done on a work-for-hire basis, you retain all rights to the material.

• What are your qualifications?
6 years of freelance editing experience, 2 years of professional technical writing experience, B.A. magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College, lifelong avid reader and compulsive editor.

• Can you give me some references?
I have a list of current and recent clients with websites here.

• I think I could do this. Can you give me an editing job?
I get requests like this every once in a while. I'm sorry, but I can't hire you -- katharos is a one-woman business and I'm not taking on employees at this time.
