When copy editing an electronic document, I look over the text and correct errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and other basic mechanics. I also note other issues that may require your attention and flag them with comments. My default style manual is Chicago; if you use AP or another house style, let me know.
For academic writing, if you specify a style (APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, etc.), I can check the format, citations, etc. to ensure that they comply with that style.
Note: This does not apply to dissertations. Because dissertation formatting is more complex and time-consuming, I have a separate rate for that
here.
If you email your text as an MS Word file, I will read through it, make corrections, and return an edited copy with my changes marked using Word's Track Changes feature.

If you email me a PDF file to edit, I can make notes in the document with Adobe Acrobat's markup and commenting tools. If more extensive changes are needed, I may also copy the text out of the PDF and edit it in Word. For other file types, such as PowerPoint presentations, I can make changes directly but won't be able to mark them.
